How to Clean Your Window Blinds and Shades

How to Clean Your Window Blinds and ShadesToday, blinds are widely used to protect from the sunlight of premises both residential and public. Modern manufacturers offer a large selection of types of products made of different materials and performing not only protective, but also decorative function.

Manufactured, as a rule, from fairly practical materials, over time, the blinds still accumulate dust that penetrates through the window, are constantly exposed to the sun’s rays emanating from heat radiators and other unfavorable factors.

As a result, without proper care, they can lose their original appearance, and instead of a beautiful interior element will not be the most attractive part of the decor.

How long will the initial appearance of the blinds last?

Most susceptible to the contamination of blinds in public places: offices, hospitals, schools, etc. But in apartments and houses they are also deposited quite a lot of dust, even despite regular wet cleaning of the office or apartment. To remove dust from the lamellas, you can use woolen or any other soft cloth. Ideal if you have a vacuum cleaner with special soft nozzles.

There are some simple recommendations that will help keep the blinds in good condition and do not dry clean the blinds:

When using detergents, it is first necessary to check their effect on the material from which the lamellae are made by applying a small amount of solution to the edge of the cloth with a cotton swab.
When washing window panes and frames, avoid using caustic and alkaline agents to avoid them falling on the blinds.
Regularly ventilate the room, which will help prevent condensation from appearing on the lamellas.
When servicing the blinds, always take into account the features of their design and the material of which the lamellae are made.

Care for vertical blinds

Dry and wet cleaning is suitable for plastic lamellas, as well as ultrasonic cleaning. But it is worth remembering that machine wash can not be used to preserve their shape and material properties.

Blinds made of fabric with a special moisture-repellent impregnation should be periodically wiped off with a damp cloth or sponge. If the fabric from which the lamellas are made, gleams or shines, do not use wet cleaning to avoid the appearance of stains. It is better to wipe them with a cloth of artificial silk.

In the presence of strong contaminants, the lamellas can be cleaned by lowering them into a warm soap solution for a while, but not erasing. After that they should be rinsed and well wiped. However, this method should not be used frequently to preserve the protective properties of the special impregnation of the fabric.

Care of roll blinds

For roller shutters, dry cleaning or dry cleaning is recommended. Wet treatment can lead to deformation of the web and loss of material properties, so the use of detergents should be avoided. In an extreme case, to clean strong contaminants, you can use a neutral agent, and to remove stains – natural stain removers. Dry roll blinds should only be deployed to avoid deformation of the fabric.

Care for horizontal blinds

Aluminum lamellas can be wiped with a damp cloth or sponge. To remove strong contaminants use a special cleaner without abrasive components or shampoo solution. To clean the wooden blinds, you can use a dry sponge or a vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle.

Blind-Pleated Care

To clean the cloths from pleated fabric, they are lowered for a while into a warm detergent solution, then carefully rinsed and dried in the folded form. Usually they do not dry out until after 12 hours. Do not iron the blinds.
